We track virtualization and open RAN revenue and operator CAPEX. We provide enough detail to plan your next product.

Like scuba divers, our analysts dive deep into the technology to fully understand wireless and its costs. We combine our top-down forecasts (from operators, cloud players, and enterprises) with our bottom-up forecasts (data collected from semiconductor and software suppliers).

The Mobile Experts Team

Joe Madden founded Mobile Experts and serves as the lead analyst. Over the past 30 years, Mr. Madden has accurately predicted Digital Predistortion, Remote Radio Heads, Small Cells, 5G Fixed Wireless, as well as accurate growth forecasts for IoT, Virtual RAN, and Open RAN. He has worked as an RF engineer and managed product lines in mobile infrastructure and in handset components. He has parachuted in as an interim CEO, and returned a dying company to profits.

Joe leads the Mobile Experts team in analysis of wireless communications and Edge Computing. Education: UCLA and Stanford for Physics and Business. He can’t jump so high anymore but he still loves to spike a volleyball!

Kyung Mun is a Principal Analyst at Mobile Experts focusing on Small Cells, Private Wireless, Fixed Wireless Broadband, and Edge Computing. Over the past 30 years, he has worked on hardware board designs; programmed real-time embedded systems for wireless infrastructure and mobile devices; led product management for optical systems; and, worked on technology strategy for CxO’s in wireless and cable industries (Motorola, Lucent, CableLabs). Kyung’s educational background includes UT-Austin and Georgia Tech for Electrical Engineering and an MBA from SMU. Kyung is an avid mountain biker!

Dan has an extensive background in RF technology, spanning more than 29 years in areas of RF design, CATV applications and product marketing for PAs, filters and switches supporting all generations of digital handsets. Dan has previously worked at Pacific Monolithics, Ashtech, California Eastern Labs, Avago and most recently with Qorvo where he was technical account manager supporting a large handset OEM.

Dan received his BSEE and MSEE from Santa Clara University. Dan is based in Silicon Valley, where he tries his best to avoid the commute and instead spends time enjoying the hiking and wine country of the south bay.

Dan McNamara

Frank started his career in the mobile industry 30 years ago helping mobile operators build their first networks. Later, working in product management roles on the vendor-side, he was involved with developing the first smart antennas and broadband wireless networks that are the precursor to 4G and 5G. His last startup built backhaul solutions for small cells. Frank graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He later acquired his M.A.Sc and MBA at the University of Toronto in Canada.

Frank is a Founding Partner at Xona Partners and has been collaborating with Mobile Experts since 2012. He is based in Ottawa, Canada...and he's a great salsa dancer!

Tom Gruba is a veteran strategist, with experience leading the Canopy product line at Motorola and launching the LightRadio product for Alcatel-Lucent. Where Mobile Experts has customers that need help to interpret market data and create a winning product roadmap, marketing strategy, or corporate strategy, Tom engages to provide Expert guidance. He has degrees in Computer Science and in Electronics Engineering so he can help with both hardware and software. This is the best photo that we could find where Tom is not holding a fish!
